Welcome to our new blog, where you can learn a bit more about the people that make Automatrix work, as well as some of the things that interest us. In this series, each article will feature a member of the team. In addition to some background information, each article will give the person in the spotlight a chance to share their thoughts about the company, industry, or the other things that excite them.

First up, I’ll introduce myself. I’m Allan Ross, a software engineer and sometimes writer for Automatrix. I quite the varied work history, but I’d prefer to refer to my experience as well-rounded instead of unfocused. I’ve worked in the auto industry, education, insurance and more. Helping to make a home with my dear wife and pups was adequate to motivate me at work, but said wife encouraged me to find something that really interests me. Software engineering has the benefits of being an outlet for my analytical mind, as well as my creative side. There’s always more challenges, but there is real satisfaction in finding a novel solution to a tough problem.

In my down time, I enjoy painting miniatures, listening to audiobooks, and planning the next concert or getaway with my wife. Painting is something that I started in earnest during the pandemic lockdown, and it has been very rewarding building the skill and learning the techniques to produce some cool looking models.

Thank you for your interest in getting to know me and the rest of the team. Next time, you’ll meet a man with a heart of gold and a lot of very specific interests. He’s the first of our (beardy) triumvirate of owners, John Howell.
